Slowing Down With Autumn
Slowing Down With Autumn
Autumn is here and she is here to teach us how to reconnect back with ourselves, our families and with nature. From the vibrant leaves changing color from green to fiery orange and red to baking holiday treats from the harvest of that year; it is a time of really soaking up all of the moments before we head into nature’s great pause. So many of us get caught up in the routine of school, the holiday traditions and just the hustle and bustle of life that we forget to actually be present with our families, our children and our friends. With all of the external changes happening all around us, it’s important to ask ourselves what changes are happening within us?
A good way to start this new season is by reconnecting with ourselves, bringing balance to our core and in doing so - bringing balance to our family. I always envision myself as a cup, filling myself up so that I can pour out onto those around me. A good start is to reflect on this last season and all of the events that have taken place. Grab a journal, a paintbrush, whatever medium calls to you and just spend some time asking yourself - am I happy? Am I growing towards who I want to be? Take time to affirm yourself. Focus on your accomplishments and all that you’ve done, big or small. This helps give us insight to who we are and the trajectory in which we are going.
Listen to the call of this season, revel in the beauty and take time to recharge. Plan an adventure with your family. With the warm days and cool nights it is a great time to spend it outdoors and slow down among the trees together. We often forget that nature is a sweet medicine to our spirits. But maybe for you what it takes to recharge is doing a puzzle with the family, reading a book, or playing music. Listen to yourself, you know how to love yourself best.
Reconnecting with ourselves and looking at what we’ve done, who we are and what’s important truly sets the tone as we walk into this season of Autumn together. As the chilly temperatures pull us inside, Earth’s way of having us spend more time with one another, it is important to remember to be present and walk into the new season in a healthier way for us and our families.
